You’ve heard the hype about detoxes and cleanses. But how do you know if doing a detox is right for you? 

In most cases, there’s no wrong time to do a healthy detox. Our bodies are bombarded every day with toxins and chemicals in our food, air, and water. A cleansing detox can support the natural detoxification processes of the liver and other detoxification organ systems. 

If you’re struggling with stubborn symptoms or don’t feel quite like your usual healthy self, that’s even more reason to detox for a healthy reset.

  1. Your skin is breaking out.
    Your skin is a reliable gauge of how healthy your internal body is. If your skin has been breaking out more than usual (or if you experience redness, itching, dryness, oiliness, or other skin issues), toxins could be congesting your skin and organ systems.
    It’s time to eat whole fresh foods, drink plenty of water, and exercise more. Also, take a break from any harmful personal care products. Most of us are unknowingly exposed to toxins in fragrances, facial care products, and cosmetics.
  2. You can’t concentrate.
    When daily toxins from our environment are combined with poor diet, nutrient deficiencies, poor sleep, and emotional stress, your brain has to work harder than usual to complete even basic daily tasks. This can leave you feeling unfocused, foggy-headed, and forgetful.
  3. You can’t go a day without satisfying your sweet tooth.
    Eating too much sugar plays tricks on your brain; the more you eat, the more you crave. Unfortunately, all this excess sugar increases inflammation and your risk of developing a chronic disease. If you’re having strong sugar cravings every day, let that be your sign that a sugar detox is necessary to get back on track.
  4. You constantly feel under the weather.
    Frequent infections or illnesses such as frequent colds, flu, covid, recurring UTIs, sores, or infections that don’t heal can be a sign that toxins have accumulated and congested the immune system. By doing a detox, you’ll take the pressure off the immune system to “clean up” all these toxins and improve your resilience.
  5. Your digestion is unpredictable.
    Sluggish or irregular digestion can be a sign that the gastrointestinal system is struggling to get rid of toxins fast enough. The result? Bloating, constipation, loose stools, weight gain, abdominal discomfort, and new food allergies.   6. You just feel off.
