Which Acidic Foods Are Most Toxic To Your Health?

We know there are certain foods that release either more acidic or more alkaline chemicals into your body as they are digested, but it’s difficult to know exactly how much these chemicals influence your body’s internal pH levels. Studies show that eating too many acidic foods can lead to an acidic internal environment, which depletes the immune system and creates a disease thriving habitat within your body.

For instance, viruses and cancer grow in acidic environments hence, damage the healthy cells by leaching minerals and nutrients. In return, these cells stop making energy and die. This is the main reason viral infections and cancer cause cell death. Furthermore, research has shown a connection between a diet high in alkaline foods and better overall health. It’s not clear though whether that is because of the alkaline nature of certain foods or benefits these alkaline foods have in your body.

As a scientist and a natural doctor, when I look at foods that are more alkaline rather than acidic, it makes sense that the alkaline foods would be a smart choice to prevent chronic diseases such as viral infection, cancer, heart disease, auto-immune conditions, diabetes, and obesity. The interesting thing is that alkaline foods are all around us, as long as you include fruits and vegetables in your diet these foods are high in fiber and antioxidants, whereas processed foods like dairy, white flour, sugar, and meat are acidic and not so healthy.

It’s important to note, a few non-processed acidic foods like blueberries and walnuts are healthy due to their high antioxidant properties and rich nutrient content, so don’t avoid them just because of their high acidic environment.

Which food sources should you avoid to boost your immune system and skyrocket your metabolism to prevent viral infection and reach a healthy weight?

Let’s first discuss how metabolism works since the optimal metabolic state is essential for optimal health. Healthy metabolism depends on how well your systems such as thyroid, adrenals, and gut are able to convert foods that you just ate into energy. In order to do so efficiently, your body requires an alkaline environment. If not, then these foods get stored as fat hence weight gain, low energy, and poor immune system.

Think of it this way, metabolism is quite often compared to fire, every chemical reaction involves breaking down a solid mass. The only difference is that the chemical reactions in your body happen in a slow and controlled manner. When things burn in the environment, an ash residue is left behind in a similar fashion, the foods you eat also leave an “ash” residue known as metabolic waste.

For instance, gout is an arthritic condition due to your body not being able to eliminate waste effectively. In addition, kidney stones and cancer growth are known to be caused by too much waste circulating in your body. As it turns out, this metabolic waste can be alkaline, also called neutral or acidic.

It is believed that metabolic waste can directly affect your body’s acidity. In other words, if you eat foods that leave acidic ash, it makes your blood more acidic. If you eat foods that leave alkaline ash, it makes your blood more alkaline. However, it is thought that acidic ash waste makes you vulnerable to illness and disease, whereas alkaline ash is considered protective and easier to eliminate.

For better health outcome and prevention, I encourage you to incorporate daily more alkaline foods and AVOID or limit acidic foods listed below.

Highly acidic foods you should AVOID or limit:

  1. Dairy
  2. Meat
  3. Processed sugar
  4. Poultry
  5. Grains
  6. Alcohol
  7. Eggs

Highly Alkaline Foods you should eat MORE of:

  1. Spinach/Kale or any kind of dark green leafy vegetables
  2. Dandelion greens
  3. Carrot
  4. Chives
  5. Endive
  6. Avocado
  7. Almonds
  8. Bean (fresh)
  9. Beets (fresh)
  10. Blackberries/Raspberries/Cranberries (fresh)
  11. Plum
I recommend to my patients to eat five to nine servings of fruits and vegetables daily from the alkaline list. Essentially a serving is ½ a cup. They can be either fresh or frozen. It’s super simple to add delicious organic frozen mixed berries to unsweetened coconut yogurt, which is one of my favorite delicious breakfast to eat.
